Randy Broadnax, Robin Hopper, and Billy Ray Mangham. Three
of the Eye of the Dog faculty.

BILLY RAY MANGHAM In addition to his larger
than life size work in terra cotta and stoneware, Billy Ray
will be showing his "Real People" series from his show at
the San Angelo Fine Arts Museum and the remainder of the "41
Dogs and a Cat" series from Texas Clay Festival. There
will be a small selection of "discontinued and seconds" of
Billy Ray's work on Saturday morning. "As we move from a
"manufacturing" mindset into the operation of Eye of the
Dog Art Center, there is less time to be in the studio and less
production of ware so the "seconds" area gets smaller each
year." Billy Ray Billy Ray will be showing in his
studio across from the bandstand.

BEVERLY MANGHAM
Beverly's recent work retains the complexity, humor, and insight of
her previous work while becoming more 2 - D in nature. This
body of work is full of the excitement that comes with new discovery
and a change in direction - a real sense of new
beginnings. She will also have a great new stack of her
fantastic collage cards. Beverly will be showing in her studio
near the bandstand.

|
|
DIANA MELANCON The simplicity and
understatement of Diana's brushwork combined with precise and
elegant forms make her work a big favorite in the Mangham
household. Everyone should be using her dinnerware on a daily
basis.
|
GERY "ROCKETSKULL" HENDERSON Gery's new work
brings in the added dimension of wood fired work. His work in
Raku is joined with the deeper tones and natural colors found in
wood fired work. ( Gery has been sharing a wood kiln with Steve,
John Vela, and others at Bill and Bridgett Hauser's Sunset Canyon
Pottery out near Dripping Springs.)
Gery's clay vocabulary continues to expand without giving up the
humor and insight from his previous work.

JAMIE JOHNSON This will be Jaime's first year at Sleeping
Dog. She's a gifted sculptor with an arts degree from the
Kansas City Art Institute. JAMIE has taken several workshops
at Eye of the Dog and she and her main squeeze, Jess, have become
our dear friends.
.
|
JESS WADE Another graduate from the Kansas City Art
Institute, Jess Wade brings a humorous and focused comment on the
state of the universe in both 2-D and 3-D.
|
|
|
JAIME SHELTON Jaime's work in metal - particularly the
technique of repose - brings a breath of fresh air to the
genre. Her excellent craftsmanship and feeling for color
combine in wonderful, artful statements. Jaime and her
husband, Dave, own and operate the Blue Goat Cafe in San Marcos - a
great place to meet and eat.
|
LISA McPIKE SMITH Lisa's well crafted and colorful
vignettes are a joy to behold. We are truly happy to have Lisa
return to Sleeping Dog.
|
|
|
ROBIN RENEE HICKS Robin's hand painted black
and white photos have been winning awards at major Arts and Crafts
Festivals across the United States for several years. Her
attention to detail and artistic eye add up to work that draws the
viewer in and transports him to another time and place. We
first met Robin on the craft fair circuit many years ago and have
been friends ever since. Robin lives on the Blanco River just
outside Wimberley.
|
RYAN McKERLEY There are no potters in America today that
can match the technical expertise and eye for the form that defines
Ryan's work. Porcelain is the most vexing and unforgiving
material in the world of clay and he has mastered it. It's
hard to imagine now, but Ryan began his ceramic career just out of
college by working for Billy Ray at Sleeping Dog. Ryan threw
most of the forms Billy decorated and fired from about 1991 to 2001
and continues to work every now and then. He is a great guy,
he makes great stuff, everyone should have a piece of his
work.

|
|
TY JOHNSON - Ty is the first person to be making work
in the new Eye of the Dog facility having completed his studio
addition last February. Ty and Cathy have the land next to
ours and both are major players in the establishment of this Art
Center as well as being the best neighbors in the world.
Ty's work in Terra Cotta, Stoneware, and Raku is excellently
crafted and is chock full of wit, insight, and a view of a world
where laughter is the norm and the atmosphere is light. This
is Ty's second year at the show and we are so glad to have him here.
|
ERIC JACKSON A master of form and
function, Eric is a master of the difficult and beautiful Shino
glaze technique. A great guy and a great potter, we're happy
he is returning.

FOOD Great food is a big part of the
Homeshow. Billy Ray and Beverly love to cook and love to feed
lots of people. Billy Ray's ribs (pictured above) are rumored
to have turned dyed in the wool vegetarians into full blown
carnivores! There may not be ribs at the Homeshow but the
smoked turkey and other delicacies will be sure to
please. There will also be a variety of beverages and an open
bar for the Friday night gala. |

|
LINDA SHEETS The imagination, color, and expertise in
Linda's scratchboard work has placed her at the pinnacle of
scratchboard art in America. This technique is growing in
popularity and is an exciting visual treat. Her subject matter
ranges from fez wearing monkeys to funky dogs and introspective
crows. This will be Linda's first year at the show. She
also taught a workshop this fall at Eye of the Dog and everyone had
a great time and learned a lot. I was one of the participants
and thoroughly enjoyed her teaching and learning a new technique. |
The amazing accordian master, Ponty Bone, will be playing some
foot stomping, butt rockin music at Sleeping Dog on Friday
night. Make sure you have your dancing shoes on, it's going to
be one fine occasion. |
